Don’t Make This Mistake at Nodeul Island! (What You Need to Know in 2026)

Are you looking for a Nodeul Island renovation update before your sunset picnic? You might want to read this first.

In my latest video, I headed to Nodeul Island expecting a chill afternoon with snacks and Han River ramen.

However, I was in for a surprise.

Many of the indoor facilities, including the main convenience store, have closed or are in the process of closing for a large-scale renovation project that will run for several years.

If you don’t want to end up hungry and confused like I did, here is everything you need to know about the current status of Nodeul Island renovation and the best “Plan B” route.

Quick Checklist Before You Go:

Download the ‘Ddareungyi’ App

If you plan to bike, set up the app in advance (Global version available).

Navigation

Google Maps can be tricky in Korea. Use Naver Maps or Kakao Maps for the most accurate biking and walking directions.

Bring a Light Jacket

The riverside is always colder than the city center, especially after sunset.

1. The Current Status of Nodeul Island (as of Feb 2026)

The entrance of the Nodeul Island.

Nodeul Island is being transformed into a “Global Art Island” under a long-term redevelopment plan led by world-renowned designer Thomas Heatherwick.

Construction is being phased through to around 2027–2028.

While the outdoor lawns and riverside walking paths remain open to the public, the commercial side of the island is changing significantly.

For the most accurate and real-time updates on construction schedules, you can visit the Official Nodeul Island Website.

What’s Closed (or closing) during Nodeul Island renovation

Most indoor restaurants, cafes, and the main convenience store that used to sell Han River ramen and picnic items.

What’s Still Open during Nodeul Island renovation

Outdoor picnic areas, general open spaces, public restrooms, and the iconic “Moonlight Nodeul” art installation.

Why it Matters

It has become very difficult to buy snacks or even a simple drink directly inside Nodeul Island. If you’re looking for the full “K-Ramen experience,” you’ll want to head to my recommended Plan B.

Tip: Even without the shops, Nodeul Island is still worth a quick stop for the panoramic view of the 63 Building and the passing trains on the Han River Railway. It’s a perfect photo op!

2. The Perfect Plan B: Ichon Hangang Park

Just about a 10-minute bike ride (or a scenic 20-minute walk) across the bridge lies Ichon Hangang Park. This is where I ended up in my video, and honestly, it was a blessing in disguise.

Ichon is more spacious and has a relaxed, local vibe compared to other tourist-heavy parks. Most importantly, the convenience stores here are operating normally and are fully equipped with ramen cooking machines.

How to get there from Nodeul Island:

  • By Bike (Recommended): Rent a Ddareungi (Seoul’s public bike) near Nodeul Station (Line 9) or the bridge access area. Cross the Hangang Bridge toward the north (Yongsan side) following the bike lane.
  • On Foot: Use the dedicated pedestrian path on Hangang Bridge. The skyline views while crossing are stunning, especially during the “Golden Hour.”

3. How to Enjoy Han River Ramen Like a Local

Han River Ramen cooking machine at Ichon Hangang Park

Once you arrive at Ichon Hangang Park, head to the nearest convenience store (GS25, CU, or the specialized Han River park stores). Here is your step-by-step guide to the perfect ramen:

1. Pick your ramen

Choose a packet ramen that offers a paper bowl option for induction machines.

2. Add toppings

Grab kimchi, cheese, or a soft-boiled egg. These simple additions instantly upgrade your meal.

3. Use the machine

Scan the barcode on the bowl (if required), place it on the machine, and press ‘Start.’

The machine automatically dispenses water and sets the timer.

4. Timing tip

Stir occasionally. When there are about 30 seconds left, crack your egg into the bowl for a rich, silky broth.

Finally, carry your bowl to the riverside, spread your mat, and enjoy your meal with the best view in Seoul.

4. Summary & Final Tips

Trash Disposal

Please use the designated recycling stations. Keeping the riverfront clean is a big part of Seoul’s park culture.

Stay Warm

Don’t underestimate the river breeze! A windbreaker is highly recommended.
