Namsan Sky Forest Trail: 1 Best Way to Explore Seoul

Hi again! It’s your local bestie, Yeda.

Today, I want to take you to the Namsan Sky Forest Trail, a hidden gem that lets you enjoy Seoul’s nature without the exhausting stairs.

If you followed my last post—[biking from Seoul Station to Gyeongbokgung]—your legs might still be sore.

And honestly?

I get it.

N Seoul Tower

Namsan is one of those places everyone tells you to visit in Seoul.
But let’s be real—when people say “Namsan,” they usually mean:

  • endless stairs
  • crowded paths
  • tour groups marching toward N Seoul Tower

Beautiful, yes

Enjoyable for your knees? Not always.

So today, instead of another “must-climb” route, I want to show you a different version of Namsan.
Quieter. Gentler.

And surprisingly new.

Let me introduce you to Namsan Sky Forest Trail—a walking trail that even many locals don’t know yet.

🌲 What Is the Namsan Sky Forest Trail?

Entrance of Namsan Sky Forest Trail

If you’re searching for hidden nature in Seoul, this path is exactly that.

“Haneul” means sky, and “sup” means forest.

True to its name, the Namsan Sky Forest Trail is an elevated wooden boardwalk that gently follows the slope of Namsan Mountain, letting you walk through the forest canopy instead of climbing straight up.

What makes it special is how new it is.

From what I know, this trail opened very recently (around October 2025)—which explains why it still feels like a secret.

There are no souvenir shops, no loud crowds, just locals quietly walking, couples chatting softly, and the sound of leaves under your feet.

It’s also designed as a barrier-free path, meaning:

  • No steep staircases
  • No rocky hiking sections
  • No “why did I do this to myself” moments

If you’ve walked NYC’s High Line, imagine something similar—but surrounded by pine trees, not buildings, and sitting halfway up a mountain in the middle of Seoul.

You can check the official park updates and facility info on the Namsan Park Official Website.

🛤️ Other Namsan Trekking Trails (Quick Comparison)

To put the Namsan Sky Forest Trail into context, here’s how it compares to other Namsan routes:

Namsan City Wall Trail

A historic path alongside the old Seoul City Wall. Beautiful, but includes slopes and stairs.

Namsan Circular Trail

A longer loop around the mountain with mixed terrain—great if you want a proper walk.

Stair Route to N Seoul Tower

Iconic, crowded, and definitely a workout.

👉 Compared to all of these, the Namsan Sky Forest Trail is by far the easiest and calmest option, especially if you want nature without turning it into a hike.

🗺️ The Route I Took (Forest → Views → Market)

View of N Seoul Tower from the Namsan Sky Forest Trail

Here’s how my afternoon looked:

Start: Namsan Library

Walk: The Namsan Sky Forest Trail (about 40–50 minutes, very relaxed pace)

After: Continue toward the Namsan bus stop

A quick personal note:
I actually biked up to Namsan Library using Seoul’s public bike system (Ddareungyi).

The view was great—but wow, the hill was not forgiving.

My legs were already complaining before the walk even started.

If I could do it again?
👉 I’d take a bus or taxi up, then fully enjoy the Sky Forest Path with fresh legs.

🚌 How to Get There (The Easy Way)

Starting point of Namsan Sky Forest Trail near Namsan Library

To start your journey on the Namsan Sky Forest Trail, head towards the Namsan Library as your destination.

Best options:

  • 🚕 Taxi: just say “Namsan Library
  • 🚌 Namsan circular buses that stop near the library area

From there, follow the signs toward forest trails.

The entrance to the Sky Forest Trail is only a short walk away—and because you’re already high up, the entire walk feels effortless.

🍃 Walking the Namsan Sky Forest Trail: The Feeling

Elevated wooden boardwalk of Namsan Sky Forest Trail in Seoul

The moment you step onto the wooden deck, something shifts.

The air feels cooler.
Traffic noise fades into the background.
Your footsteps sound softer against the wood.

While walking along the Namsan Sky Forest Trail, you’ll notice how quiet and peaceful it is.

Sometimes it’s dense and quiet, and then suddenly the trees part just enough to reveal the city below—Yongsan, clusters of apartments, and on clear days, even a glimpse of the Han River.

This is the part I love most:
You’re not fully in nature, and you’re not fully in the city.

You’re floating somewhere in between.

While most visitors are sweating their way up staircases to N Seoul Tower, you’re just… walking.

Breathing.

Looking around.

🏙️ After the Trail: Namsan Bus Stop & Seoul Views

Seoul City View From Namsan Sky Forest Trail

Instead of heading down on foot, I followed the path up a bit more toward the nearby Namsan bus stop.

From there, you get wide, open views of Seoul—especially beautiful in the late afternoon when the light softens and the city starts glowing.

I stood there for a moment, just watching buses come and go, people taking photos, and the city stretching out below.

Then I hopped on the bus straight down toward Namdaemun Market.

Simple.

Easy.

No extra climbing.

😋 The Reward: Namdaemun Market

Street food and stalls at Namdaemun Market after Namsan hike

After a calm forest walk, Namdaemun Market hits you with the complete opposite energy—in the best way.

It’s loud, crowded, and full of smells: sizzling oil, sweet dough, bubbling soups.

I know Namdaemun is famous for japchae (vegetable) hotteok, and a lot of people love it.
But honestly?

👉 I’m more of a sweet hotteok person.

I went straight for the honey-filled hotteok, because I have a serious sweet tooth.

Crispy outside, gooey inside—simple happiness.

That said, my Korean-American sister-in-law (she lives in the U.S.) loves the japchae hotteok here.

Every time she visits Korea, she insists it’s worth lining up for.

So I really think this comes down to personal taste.

If you like savory snacks, try the japchae version.
If you’re like me, go sweet.
Either way, it’s part of the Namdaemun experience—and trying something new is half the fun.

💡 Practical Tips Before You Go

Walking through Namsan Sky Forest Trail

👟 Shoes: Sneakers are best. Easy path, but still a mountain.

💧 Water: Not many vending machines on the trail—buy a drink beforehand.

⏰ Best time: About 2 hours before sunset

→ calm forest → soft city light → evening market vibes

🌧️ After rain: The wooden deck can be slippery—walk slowly.

Final Thoughts

Chill in the middle of Namsan Sky Forest

The Haneul Forest Path is proof that Seoul still has quiet corners—even on one of its most famous mountains.

It’s not about conquering Namsan.
It’s about enjoying it.

If you want a way to experience Namsan without crowds, stairs, or stress, this path is it.

In my next post, I’ll do a deep dive into Namdaemun Market—the best food alleys, local favorites, and where to find meaningful souvenirs to take home.

Have you ever found a hidden spot in a big city that felt like a different world?
Tell me in the comments.

Stay adventurous,
Yeda 🌸
