Hi guys! It’s your friendly local Korean friend, Yeda.”

If you are planning a trip to Seoul, I bet eating instant ramen by the Han River is on your bucket list.

You’ve probably seen it in K-dramas or YouTube vlogs.

It looks so romantic and delicious, right?

It truly is a “must-do” Korean cultural experience.

But today, I need to share a real-life story to save you time and energy.

I recently went out to film my latest YouTube video.

My big plan?

Getting a perfect bowl of Han River ramen at Nodeul Island.

But guess what? Things didn’t go as planned at all.

Let me tell you exactly what happened, why you should change your itinerary, and how you can master the Han River ramen machine like a true local.

The Nodeul Island Trap: What Tourists Don’t Know

Let’s talk about Nodeul Island first.

Nodeul Island is a beautiful, artificial island in the middle of the Han River. It has great sunset views and lovely walking paths.

View of the Nodeul Island

It used to have a convenience store where you could easily grab ramen and snacks.

So naturally, I grabbed my camera and headed there for a relaxed afternoon.

My mouth was already watering for that hot, spicy ramen soup.

But when I arrived, I was honestly shocked.

The Convenience Store is GONE!

The convenience store that used to sell instant noodles on Nodeul Island completely stopped operating around late 2025.

The space is now closed due to renovations, and there are no ramen cooking machines available anymore.

Imagine how sad I was!

I was so hungry.

Many tourists still go there expecting the full K-drama ramen experience, only to find an empty space.

Take it from a local: Do not go to Nodeul Island for ramen right now.

You can still visit for a walk or photos, but not for the classic “convenience store ramen” moment.

The Perfect Alternative: Why I Went to Ichon Hangang Park

Peaceful view of Ichon Hangang Park biking trail

Since my ramen dreams were crushed at Nodeul Island, I had to find a Plan B.

I quickly hopped on my bike and headed to Ichon Hangang Park.

Honestly? It was a blessing in disguise. Ichon Hangang Park is actually my secret favorite spot.

Here is why you will love it more than the famous, crowded tourist spots:

1. It is Incredibly Peaceful

If you go to Yeouido or Banpo Hangang Park, it is packed with people.

You often have to wait in a long line just to use the ramen machine.

Ichon, on the other hand, is a residential area. It is much quieter, filled with locals walking their dogs or jogging. It really feels like the “quiet side of Seoul.

2. No Need for a Fancy Setup

No Need for a Fancy Setup
I’ll be honest with you guys—I am not a fan of those super “girly,” aesthetic picnics with fancy rented mats and wine glasses.

That is just not my style!

For me, the best way to enjoy the Han River is keeping it simple.

At Ichon, you don’t need to worry about renting a picnic package.

You can just grab a hot bowl of ramen, find an empty wooden park bench, and look out at the water.

It’s effortless and perfect.

How to Find the Convenience Store at Ichon Park

Getting there is super easy.

Subway: Take Line 4 or Gyeongui-Jungang Line to Ichon Station.

Exit: Take Exit 4 and walk straight towards the river.

Walk: It takes about 10 minutes. Just keep going until you see the wide park.

Once you enter the park, look for the GS25 or CU convenience store. They are located right by the main walking paths.

You will probably notice them from the bright signs and the delicious smell of hot soup in the air!

The Ultimate Han River Ramen Guide _ Machine

Now for the most important part of the Han River Ramen Guide.

To a foreigner, the Korean ramen cooking machines might look like complicated science equipment.

But don’t panic! Here is your step-by-step Han River Ramen guide to looking like a total pro.

Instant Han River Ramen Machine at the Ichon Convenienve store

Step 1: Pick Your Ramen and the Special Bowl

Go inside the store and choose your favorite ramen.

When you pay, tell the cashier you are eating it there. They will give you a special paper bowl with a barcode. Do not throw this away! You need this barcode to activate the machine.

Step 2: Scan the Barcode

Take your ramen outside to the machines. First, scan the barcode on the side of your bowl. You will hear a little “beep” sound. The machine now knows exactly how much water to pour and how long to boil it.

Step 3: Put Everything in the Bowl

Place the dry noodles inside.

Crucial tip: Open the soup powder and pour it on top of the noodles. If the powder sits on the bottom, it can burn the paper while cooking!

Step 4: Press Start

Place the bowl on the induction heating circle and press the “Start” button. Hot water will automatically pour in, and it will start boiling very quickly.

Step 5: Stir and Wait

While the timer counts down, use your wooden chopsticks to gently stir the noodles.

This makes them perfectly chewy!

When the timer hits zero, carefully pick up the hot bowl.

You’re done!
